Site investigation works – 10th and 11th September

Site investigation works will be taking place at Brislington meadows over two days on 10th and 11th September. The works will involve machine excavated trial pits ( around 16 number pits)  using a JCB excavator. The work is required to assess ground conditions and to obtain samples for testing.

The pits are typically 2m long, 0.6m wide and can be up to 4m depth, dependant on ground conditions. The arisings will be placed in stockpiles adjacent to the pits temporarily . On completion each pit will be backfilled and compacted. The pits will be reinstated with the removed soil and grass. The works will be supervised at all times by an engineer and no pits will be left open overnight. Access to the pit locations will be via agreed routes , without disruption to users of the site.

An Ecological Clerk of Works will be on site at all times , providing ecological supervision, advice and mitigation for the site investigation works.

Following the site investigation works,  the grass will be cut on Monday 22 September as part of the annual landscape maintenance and management at Brislington meadows. The northern half of each field will be cut to allow long grass habitat to remain on site for wildlife. The grass will be cut to a high height of 300mm and carried out in a directional mowing from the field edge to the centre of the field to allow wildlife to disperse into the surrounding vegetation. There will be some disruption to users of the site during the works,  access will be restricted in the northern half of each field as the works progress.

During the grass cutting an Ecological Clerk of Works will be on site to check for ecological impact and advise on mitigation required during the works.
